Accident occurrence

  • Within the scope of the accident insurance institutions for the industrial and public sectors, a total of 871,547 reportable accidents at work occurred in 2019 which resulted either in death or in incapacity for work for more than three days, that’s a decrease of 0.6 %. The risk of accidents at work per 1,000 full time equivalent employees (FTE) sank by 9.2 % to 20.97.
  • In 2019, 13,362 serious accidents at work were recorded which resulted in payment of a pension or death benefit. The risk of serious accidents at work per 1,000 full time equivalent employees (FTE) thus sank by 9.9 %, from 0.357 in 2018 to 0.322 in 2019. In addition, 497 fatal work-related accidents occurred.
  • The 186,672 reportable commuting accidents in the industrial and public sectors constitute a decrease compared to the previous year, from 3.64 to 3.61 per 1,000 insurance relationships.
  • The 4,626 new commuting accident pensions represent an increase of 1.72 % in the accident risk per 1,000 insurance relationships, from 0.088 in 2018 to 0.089 in 2019. The number of fatal commuting accidents slightly decreased from 310 to 309.
